Skincare for dry skin: Skinnamon, Birchrose & Co Cleansing Oil, Balm & Co Serum and Lip salve

If you have dry skin like me, you skin tends to feel tight, sometimes itchy and you get the occasional dry patch or even flaking. Don’t despair with a good moisturizing regimen and healthy eating habits including drinking lots of water, your skin should get it's glow back.

Cleanse

Birchrose & Co. Cleansing Oil for Dry skin at Malachite + Elephant, CanadaI recommend cleansing once a day, preferably before going to bed. If you wear makeup, NEVER go to bed without removing it, your skin and pillowcases will thank you. Cleansing Oils do amazingly well on dry skin.  Birchrose & Co’s Cleansing Oil ($20.00 CAN) contains castor oil,  sweet almond oil and organic essential oils that provide the much needed nourishment dry skin needs, it also softens and brightens the skin. After cleansing,  I’ll take a few drops of the cleansing oil and tap it gently on my face…and off to bed.

Serum

Balm & Co Glow Serum for Dry Skin at Malachite + Elephant Canada

Balm & Co's Glow Serum ($40.00) is a daily facial oil for normal to dry skin types, but can also be used for combination skin for a little extra nourishment. It can be used in the morning or at night. It contains rosehip oil which helps fight dry, weathered or dehydrated skin. Eucalyptus oil adds an extra punch; it's an antiviral and anti-inflammatory agent that can help ease the pain caused by rashes.  A few drops of this serum patted onto the skin helps heal damaged skin and fade dark spots.

Exfoliate

Skinnamon Activated charcoal Scrub, Coco Detox for dry Skin at Malachite + Elephant, Canada

Dry skin tends to look dull, so exfoliating is key to removing dry skin from the surface to uncover your best glowing skin. Skinnamon's Coco Detox Scrub ($21.00 CAN) is gentle enough to use on the face. It contains sea salts that gently exfoliate and coconut that moisturizes the skin, it also contains Vitamin E and raw cacao which fight free radicals and help keep skin youthful.

I recommend exfoliating no more than twice a week.

Mask

Birch rose Rose Kaolin + Papaya Face mask for dry skin at Malachite + Elephant, Canada

Face masks have become my weekly indulgence, I sometimes make my own Charcoal Mask or use Birchrose & Co.'s Rose Kaolin and Papaya Mask ($23.00 CAN). This mask is packed with fruit extracts and botanicals to exfoliate and soften; kaolin clays to enrich the skin while Vitamin A and retinol help to  rejuvenate the skin.

Wondering what Kaolin Clay is? The name comes from kaolinite which is a clay mineral also called silicate mineral. This clay forms in soils that exist in moist climates, such as those in tropical rainforests. Kaolin clays are great for dry skin because unlike other clays that can be drying, kaolin doesn't overly draw out skin's natural oils.

Lips

Balm & Co. Matcha Mint Lip Balm at Malachite + Elephant, CanadaIf you asked me the one beauty product I cannot be without, my answer would be Lip Balm. I have tried so many and totally fell in love with Balm & Co.'s Matcha Mint Lip balm ($9.00 CAN). I have been using it for the past 9 months...yes the same tin for 9 months and it's still going strong. It's made with aloe and avocado butters as well as matcha powder and peppermint oil which gives the lips a nice tingle. It has a thick consistency so a little goes a long way, which explains why it's lasted me so long.

If you prefer a lighter lip balm in a tube, I also recommend Birchrose and Co.'s organic lip balms  ($9.00) in Leo (lime + spearmint) or Trace (Coffee + Cocoa).

As I always tell my customers, I'm a firm believer in less is more, so pick and choose the products you will use. You don't need to use all my recommendations, just stick to what works for you and don't be afraid to mix and match brands. All brands we carry at Malachite + Elephant are plant based and therefore should all "play well" with each other.

À bientôt!
