BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Protect your Melanin

The goal of BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN is to start the conversation around sun safety to educate and protect melanin beauties worldwide.

The Black Girl Sunscreen story begins in 2016, when its founder Shontay Lundy thought it was about time to change the narrative around dark or black skin and sunscreen.

From carrying expensive umbrellas to the beach to avoiding the sun all together, women of color have come up with their own methods of protecting their skin. For years, sunscreen has been tailored to light skin individuals, leaving behind a visible white-residue on our darker skin. Blotchy makeup and white residue were enough to keep people from truly enjoying a sunny day. There was a need for a sunscreen brand that caters exclusively to women of color. BGS is made with melanated skin in mind, BGS dries completely clear and protects skin without the white-cast.

BGS supports Pathways to Production, an organization that  seeks to redefine television and film production by teaching black students to take control of how black stories are told in the media. They teach the students to own their stories and use video production to express their ideas, expose important issues and educate others.

The SPF30 formulation is made for every day use, its filled with natural ingredients that will protect your skin from the sun and doubles as a moisturizing lotion. It dries completely clear so it’s perfect to use before any outdoor activity or even under your makeup.

BGS for Kids is an everyday SPF 50 moisturizing sunscreen lotion for face and body. Leaves no sticky white residue. Soothes, moisturizes, protects, hydrates and heals your child’s skin and is water resistant for 80 minutes.
